In the evening it’s essential to feed, nourish and repair skin with a treatment facial oil, use a few drops on fingers and gently but deeply massage into skin using upwards and outwards strokes and circular motion.

Facial massage helps your skin replenish, stay moist, and helps increase the skin’s cell turnover says Sanctuary Spa Expert Nichola Joss.

  • Why should we massage our face? Facial massage is always my number one tip! Always massage your cleanser into your skin daily, then follow by massaging the Sanctuary Therapist’s Secret Facial Oil ($29.95) into the skin every evening to ensure that skin is super hydrated and to get a dewy, plump complexion.
  • Facial massage movements and lymphatic drainage have an anti ageing effect by helping to increase skin cell turnover, which slows down as we get older. A regular facial massage will help improve the radiance of the skin by stimulating the blood circulation to the face. At the same time the lymph flow is increased which helps to remove toxins, thus the skin is more radiant & glows.

  • How should we do it (upward/downward strokes) In the evening it’s essential to feed, nourish and repair skin with a treatment facial oil, use a few drops on fingers and gently but deeply massage into skin using upwards and outwards strokes and circular motion. This will address nourishment but also plump up and revitalise the skin throughout the night.
  • How often should we do it and how long? I always recommend that you should massage all products into your skin, so definitely massage your cleanser and day cream into skin for a couple of minutes each to get the real benefits by pushing the products deeper into the skin. In the evening use a facial oil and spend 3 – 4 minutes massaging it into the skin for the best results.
  • Should we use product at the same time? Yes! Cleanser, moisturiser and oil. Never stop massaging.
  • Is facial massage a life long pursuit? It’s so beneficial for the skin and has fantastic anti-ageing benefits – why would you ever stop?
  • Where did it start? I’ve always been a huge advocate for facial massage – it’s my signature treatment.
  • Are there any celebrities who do it? I use facial massage on all of my regular clients including Kate Moss, Kelly Brook, Elle McPherson, Cate Blanchett, Daisy Lowe, Darcey Bussell and Keira Knightley.
