Sand & Sky: We Road Test The Aussie Beauty Mask Everyone Is Talking About

Sand & Sky is the cult face mask sweeping Instagram.

You may have seen this face mask pop up on your Instagram feed. That is because this face mask is slowly becoming the most popular way to get clear skin in Australia. After launching in April 2017, 600 000 were sold and it had a waiting list of 2000 people. Loved by beauty gurus everywhere, the product has launched with brand new pink packaging.

Created by sisters Emily and Sarah Hamilton, who you might know as the founders of the beauty box subscription, Bellabox.

Emily: “We’ve both lived overseas and were always instantly recognized as being Australian. People always had such a warm reaction and there was this common assumption that Aussies were all friendly, laid back and beach. Australia has become really cool internationally in recent years, so we had the idea to launch an Aussie beauty brand that showcased the amazing botanical ingredients, like Australian Pink Clay, our country is blessed with. The response has been amazing!”

So…What’s so good about it?

This product is packed with natural goodies to help revitalize your skin and is cruelty-free. It contains Australian pink clay to purify the skin and tighten the pores, Aloe Vera to soothe irritations and Kakadu plum to brighten the skin and leave it with a clear and healthy glow.

Founder Emily Hamilton says, “Our mask has a cult following for a reason […] Australian Pink Clay detoxifies and mattifies the skin, and manual exfoliates from bamboo and macadamia and chemical exfoliates from fruit acids remove dry, dull skin and boost cell turnover for smooth, glowing skin.”

Why we love it

I was excited to try this product as it’s made from Australian Pink clay and is cruelty-free, vegan and paraben free. I have combination-oily skin and clay masks are known to help purify, soothe and brighten problematic skin types.

Apply using the small brush applicator it comes with it and leave it on for ten minutes.

If you have dry or sensitive skin, it is recommended using it 1 to 2 times a week. For oily or combination skin (like me), it is recommended 2 to 3 times a week.

First impressions:

This mask dries pretty quickly. I can feel a slight sting as it dries. If you have sensitive skin, you might feel the sting a bit more. It feels really tight on the skin. Once I’ve washed it off, I can feel my skin is noticeably softer and smoother. I find that this mask help reduces the appearance of pimples and imperfections. Overall, it’s effective and leaves your face with a brighter glow. I found this product similar to other cult-favourites masks such as GlamGlow Youth Mud Mask (RRP: $86.00).

How can you get your hands on it?

The mask is on sale for $69.00. Sand and Sky have their own online store where you can purchase the whole range. It is also available on ASOS and cultbeauty.co.uk.
