Supercharged Beauty: Crystals in Skincare and Makeup

From highlighters to crystal-infused makeup remover, crystals in beauty are becoming a massive trend.

Crystals such as diamonds, rubies, jade and rose quartz are more commonly found in jewellery.

And for centuries, they’ve been used as powerful, ancient healing rituals and centreing tools.

But now, they’re popping up in different, often usual places. From Miranda Kerr keeping a rose quartz in her bra, to Gwenyth Paltrow putting a jade egg up her vagina, there are a multitude of uses of these gems to gain their supposed benefits.

But what are the effects of these when incorporated into beauty? A new trend is sweeping the beauty industry, and it’s all about incorporating crystals into beauty products for an array of benefits.

Jade Rollers

Celebrities from Beyoncé to Kim Kardashian have previously touted the use of jade rollers in their skincare routine, but the practice is not a new one by any means.

Jade is known to have cooling properties, so this can soothe and calm the skin, while increasing circulation through applying a massage pressure, which can help to release toxins and calm inflammation.

First seen in ancient China in the seventh century, the practice of rolling a jade crystal over the skin was said to be an effective technique for scraping and invigorating the skin.

A handle that has a smooth crystal attached; jade rollers have recently regained popularity for their anti-ageing properties.

By rolling the crystal gently over the face, this supposedly causes a lymphatic drainage massage, which helps to drain the skin of lymph fluid. The result is a more youthful appearance, due to a de-puffing, smoothing and firming of the skin.

Additionally, jade is known to have cooling properties, so this can soothe and calm the skin, while increasing circulation through applying a massage pressure, which can help to release toxins and calm inflammation.

KORA Organics has a love for Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is said to give off self-love and healing energy, the ultimate “love and beauty stone” that has been used for centuries as a powerful tool for attracting love and acceptance.

Miranda Kerr’s skincare line Kora Organics infuses and filters every product with rose quartz, and the Australian model is so adamant of the benefits of rose quartz that she carries one with her every day.

Described on their website as “infusing the vibration of self-love”, every cream, oil and product in the Kora skincare line is uniquely filtered through Rose Quartz to create a “gentle, soothing energy to encourage self-love, self-esteem and forgiveness.”

The brand also offers a dedicated Rose Quartz Luminizer (RRP$49.95 AUD), which is an organic highlighter made out of finely crushed Rose Quartz. As well as the healing powers of the crystal, the powder gives off a dusty, pink blush for a luminous glow.

While there is no scientific backing as to the benefits of the crystal, if the main use of rose quartz is to promote self-love and acceptance, there’s definitely no harm in producing more of this energy into one’s life.
