When a new make-up printer , The Mink is released, for around $300, any colour lipstick, eyeshadow and more will be able to be “printed” at home.

A new desktop printer will enable you to print any colour lipstick, eyeshadow, bronzer or blush simply by downloading the colour and pressing print.

Harvard Business School graduate, Grace Choi, conceptualised the printer which will enable women to completely customise their makeup. Called The Mink, she says it enables any desktop computer to, “transform any image into a wearable cosmetic.”

The Mink printer will be able to print your make-up.

The printer will contain substrates which are the basis of make-up colours worldwide.  Grace claims all brands from Chanel to Revlon use the same substrates, meaning the colours her printer produces will be an exact match. “‘Big make-up companies take the pigment and the subtrates and mix them together and then jack the price,” she claims. “We do the same thing and let you get the make-up right in your own house.”

The machine is the size of a small desktop printer,  which requires little more than what your ordinary printer needs to run. It is literally a matter of finding a colour you like on the internet, using a tool to find the colour’s hexadecimal number – which every single colour has – and pressing print. The cosmetic is produced in small square units.

The Mink has the potential to completely revolutionise the makeup industry. Grace says, “The definition of beauty is something that they (we) should be able to control, not corporations. To me that’s the most important thing.”

The Mink will be able to print a complete makeup collection, including lipsticks, eye shadows, bronzers and cream foundations. Initially it will retail for just $200.
