Grease star Gretel Scarlett spoke exclusively to Bondi Beauty about the beauty products she uses to look her best when centre stage.

Getting that perfect look on stage involves a number of steps and layers. “My every day make up bag is a not as comprehensive as Sandy’s stage make up bag,” Scarlett says as she takes us through her pre-show makeup routine. Find out how you can you achieve night long perfection whether you’re dancing on the stage or on the dance floor with these professional tips.

Setting a base.

Achieving a natural glow on or off stage can be difficult. Under the spotlight, your normal foundation and colour might make you look pale and withdrawn. That’s why for theatre performers the base layer is crucial to get right. Scarlett explains that her stage makeup consists of creating a base out of 3 separate products. She uses a combination of Dermablend Smooth Indulgence foundation RRP $32, Ben Nye setting powder RRP $8.50, MAC creme blend blush RRP$41 and Inika bronzer RRP $45 as a start to help her shine on stage.

 Add the finishing touches.

Like the way your normal foundation might dull a performing glow, understated eye and lip makeup won’t make your features pop on stage. If you want your eyes to stand out to the audience or to that cute guy at the bar, be dramatic. Scarlett trades in her pencil eye liner for Rimmel black liquid eyeliner for extra definition. Use the same principle on your lips, and like Scarlett, who prefers MAC Pro Longwear lip colour RRP$46 , choose a lipstick that will last for the long haul.

 Take some down time

After a big night, either on the stage or out on the town, it’s important to let your face breathe. “If I’m just heading out for coffee, sometimes I will wear nothing on my face just to let my skin breathe after wearing heavy make up for 8 shows a week,” says Scarlett. She continues to keep things simple, “If I need to prettify myself, I use a light base of Dermablend or Inika powder, a bit of mascara, some blush, a gloss and I’m good to go.”
