How Much Do We Spend On Beauty Products?

How Much Does the Bondi Beauty Team Spend on Beauty Products

Do you spend big, or do you spend small? The Bondi Beauty team shares their dirty little secrets on how much they spend on their favourite beauty products.

We know what you’re thinking. Why on earth would you want to spend money on beauty products when you write about beauty, and no doubt get sent a lot of beauty products?

In part, you are somewhat right. We do get sent a lot of beauty products to trial and write about. However, like many of you, the Bondi Beauty team have their favourite, go-to products they love and use regularly.

I love to cocktail my beauty, so my cupboard is a real mix of both luxury and non-luxury beauty products. I’m a lover of skincare products, and although I have a massive collection of makeup, I will favour skincare over makeup any day. I mean, let’s face it, there’s no point in showing off lovely makeup if you ain’t got the skin to show it off for – am I right?

When my skin is in a good mood, I can pretty much use any type of budget skincare product on my skin and it will work. However, when my skin is having a bad day, it’s luxury all the way. And some of those luxury products vary anywhere between $80 to $150 a pop – yikes! I know. Most of these luxury products are specially formulated to help me combat my varying skin issues when needed.

The bonus is though, those bad skin days only come once or twice a month. So, I can make those luxury products last a full year if I need to. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a little with the whole year thing. But I can certainly get at least six months out of a good quality luxury product. And I see that purchase as more of an investment really, than a splurge. I only purchase luxury beauty products I know my skin will thank me for later on.

BB writer Zoe says she is a saver by nature. “I would say my average spend on beauty per month is probably lower than the average beauty-obsessed person. I believe there’s so much value to be found in beauty that doesn’t cost a bomb. Skincare is one area I won’t skimp on quality.

My mum instilled in me the importance of having a high-quality skincare routine, to not only look after my skin now but to ensure it continues to be healthy once I age. For this reason, I love Clinique skincare.

It’s a no-fuss skincare brand which provides great results, has no extravagant bells and whistles attached to the brand and products, but you do pay for the quality, and my skin has never looked better thanks to their 3-step cleansing routine. I’ll always go back to regardless of the price.” She says.

Anisha, on the other hand, believes quality is key over quantity. “Finding a long-lasting product, which is also a high-quality beauty product is what matters most to me. Because of this, I find that I will splurge on one makeup product, but have it last me a lifetime.

For example, three years ago, I purchased the MAC Gold Deposit highlighter and it has yet to fail me. If I am however on the hunt to buy a new beauty product to add to my well-established collection, it is not without having done a bunch of research beforehand to ensure the quality is worth the purchase, and price which may go along with it.” She says.

BB founder Renae explains she spends a lot on beauty, especially when she travels. “I always find so many amazing products when I travel, ones I have never heard of in Australia when I am overseas. I am always amazed at how many brands are out there, and how many innovative products there are.

Fortnum and Mason in London are one of my favourite beauty departments, as the staff have been there for decades in some cases, and they all are super knowledgable about everything. Their fragrances are incredible. I was in Barcelona in July and came across a tiny fragrance store packed with fragrances I had never heard of – there were hundreds and they were rich and beautiful. In those situations, it is hard not to buy at least something.

Harrods in London has recently re-opened their entire beauty floor and it is spectacular. I love going in there to learn about the retail face of the latest global brands – it’s an experience. Then in Jakarta last month I found a brilliant Korean make-up brand with the best matte lipsticks I have seen in a while, and they were super cheap. I couldn’t say no.” Renae says.

BB writer Tara says her beauty budget has changed a lot over the years. When she was younger, she used to spend most of her money on makeup. Lush was her vice and she would buy a new bath bomb every day to satisfy her beauty cravings.

“As I’ve aged, I’ve discovered a lot of holy grail products which I am more inclined to stick to now, rather than purchasing everything and anything. And, I can make these products last several months, particularly makeup.

I do regularly purchase skincare products, with a lot of my favourite brands for skincare leaning more towards the expensive side, like brand Origins. I trust them wholeheartedly as a brand to give my skin exactly what it needs, so I’m happy to spend that little bit extra.” She says.

What does your beauty arsenal say about you? Do you spend big, so you spend small? Or maybe, like me, you spend from a little bit of both.
