How To Stay Flawless This Winter

Winter is the season to embrace change and put your best face forward.

Embrace the cool weather with some new beauty ideas.

What better place to start than with your cosmetics.

Colours this season are beautiful, bright and strong, so forget pastel eye shadows and retiring makeup colours, and look for dark eyeliner, terracotta hues, thick mascaras, and strong lip and nails.

Focus on your best feature, and highlight it to the hilt. Richly lined lips, big black, fat lashes, and elegantly lined eyes with full rouged cheeks backed by the flawless foundation are just some of the on-trend looks you can follow as you cosy up this winter.

Just remember not to highlight everything at once – if you have red lips, pull back on the eyes, and vice-versa. Even though it’s cold, there’s still plenty to love about winter;

1) Clean, moist skin;
In winter, moving from chilly, windy winter days outside to warm, (but very dry) rooms indoors might feel warm and cosy, but it can wreak havoc with your skin and cause significant dehydration, especially if you are working out outside.

Shu Uemura’s Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleanser (RRP: $65.00) is the perfect all in one cleanser as it removes makeup and other impurities, hydrates and nourishes the skin to reveal a softer looking and healthy complexion.

Take some time to massage it well into your skin, and leave it on for 60 seconds if you can, to really penetrate the epidermis.

Shu Umera’s Ultime8 Sublime Beauty Cleanser freshens and cleanses the skin.

When you wash it off, your skin will feel supple and clean, and shouldn’t feel taut or tight. Finish with a rich moisturiser to suit your skin type.

2) Soft, supple skin:
Many of us neglect our bodies during winter. Less than a third of Australians use a body moisturiser every day, and in winter that statistics drops even lower.

Our skin is covered up, and we tend to neglect it, but rich body moisturiser is one of the winter’s essentials, and important if you are into fitness.Fit girls tend to shower more and expose their body to the elements more.

Nighttime is the best time to address the skin on your body.

Spend some time rubbing your elbows, knees, feet and hands with a fragranced body moisturiser like Frank Body Body Cream (RRP: $21.95). Enriched with coffee seed extract, pomegranate, green tea and shea and cocoa butter, this is perfect for everyday use.

Frank Body Body Cream softens and hydrates the skin.

If you are home alone, wear a pair of cotton socks and even some cotton gloves over richly moisturised hands overnight to really let the moisture in.

3) Long, lush lashes
Long, rich lashes are a big look this winter – and last through your workout if you are using the right mascara. Your mascara should be replaced every three months at least to avoid bacteria.

Try something different this season – take a look at the latest brushes, as there are many new ones on the market that can help separate, stretch and curl your lashes, depending on the shape of your eyes, eyelashes and how you like to apply it.

Try Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara (RRP: $23.00) or Lancome Hypnose Drama Instant Full Body Volume Mascara (RRP: ($27.50).

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara is one of the highly rated mascaras in the world. It will make even the shortest of lashes look fuller and longer.

4) Eyes That Pop.

Eyeliner pencils like Rimmel’s soft kohl pencil in sable brown or Maybelline’s line express kohl eyeliner in Ebony black are another simple, quick way to bring out the best in your eyes, and brown, brown/gold or black are the best colours right now. Apply liner both above and below the eyes, just make sure the pencil is sharp, your hand is steady and you are not in a hurry.

Easily blendable, the W7 Smokin Palette has a great variety of colours perfect for creating multiple looks.
Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser gives light to medium coverage perfect for everyday use.

Eyeshadow shades that work this winter are burgundy shades or black/greys. Try W7 Smokin Eye Palette (RRP: $9.99) or Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette (RRP: $21.99)
5) Flawless Faces
If you are going to wear strong lips or eyes, you need a flawless but still natural face to show everything off.

This winter lighter foundations allow your natural beauty to shine through. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser (RRP: $66.00) is oil-free with a buildable coverage – so you can work more onto your face for more coverage if you wish.Being oil-free, it’s great to wear when working out. concealer applied before your foundation will cover any spots or pigmentation, and powder to finish off can also create a very clean, matte look.

Mineral foundation is another option, especially when working out if you want to wear foundation. Don’t be fooled into thinking it is simply a powder when you see it on the shelf, as this revolutionary product can give you more coverage and a very natural look, all on its own. Try Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation (RRP: $35.00) or Bare Minerals Matte SPF15 Foundation (RRP: $41.00)

Women with any oiliness love it, but it works well on all skin types, as long as you get the application right.

For a perfect matte finish that will last oil day long, use Kat Von D’s Lock-It Powder Foundation.

How to use it: Unlike other foundations and powders, the coverage with mineral foundation can be built up gradually – in other words, you can go over your first application as much as is necessary to achieve the coverage you are after.

Either way, warm up the brush a little by holding it in the palm of your hand for a few seconds, then tap out a little of the foundation into the cap ( 3 taps is usually about right for the first application).

Sweep the brush across the lid, until the powder is all on the brush, then brush over your face in circular movements from the cheeks up to the forehead and down the nose and chin. Repeat until you are happy with the coverage.
