DIY Bath Bombs (It’s Easy)

DIY bath bombs are super easy. Here’s how:

There’s nothing quite like stepping into a warm, beautifully scented bath after a long, hard day.

Muscles relax with the fizziness, eyes begin to tire, breath begins to slow – this is the ultimate relaxation.

With DIY bath bombs, there’s no chemicals, and fragrances can be customized.

Ingredients (for two bath bombs – double or triple to make more)

  • ½ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup corn starch
  • ¼ cup citric acid (available from major supermarkets, usually in the baking aisle)
  • ¼ cup Epsom salt
  • 1 to 1 ½ teaspoons water
  • 5-10 drops essential oil of choice
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1-2 drops food colouring
  • Circular moulds (available from Spotlight and hardware stores)

  1. In a bowl combine the dry ingredients and whisk to remove any clumps.
  2. In another bowl, stir together the wet ingredients. Melt the coconut oil first, so it will combine easier.
  3. Slowly pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Whisk as you go and don’t pour too quickly – if the fixture is fizzing or foaming, slow down.
  4. Once all combined, take a small amount and squeeze together in your hands. If the mixture isn’t sticking, add more water.
  5. Tightly pack the mixture into each side of the moulds and press together. Leave overnight, then very carefully tap the mould to open and remove the bath bomb.

Colour choice

When mixing the ingredients, separate the mixture into different bowls before adding the food colouring. Choose two or more colours and make a two-tone bath bomb for the ultimate bath aesthetic.

What flavour?

By changing the flavour of the essential oil, the bath bomb can be customized to suit whatever pamper occasion you desire.

For sleep and relaxation

Lavender Oil: lavender improves sleep quality and relaxation by slowing down the central nervous system. It also helps promote better concentration and can help fight anxiety.

For digestion and muscle relaxation

Peppermint Oil: Peppermint can help alleviate stomach pains, nausea, indigestion and anxiety. It also helps to ease cramps, because it calms the involuntary smooth muscle of the stomach.

For calmness and soft skin

Rose Oil: Not only will rose oil make your bath smell amazing, rose oil is known to promote calmness and help fight harmful bacteria and organisms. It also helps to make your skin softer and more permeable.

For skin irritation and digestion

Lemon oil: Using lemon has a variety of benefits, including aiding in digestion, improving concentration, easing skin irritations and reducing cellulite. It’s also a natural immunity booster and mood enhancer.

Or combine a few for multiple benefits. Our favourites are lemon and rose or peppermint and lavender.
