D.I.Y. Face Masks for less than $5

Natural beauty is the biggest trend in beauty for 2018, and with these simple recipes, you can whip up a DIY face mask for less than a cup of coffee.

Select the mask best catered to your skin type, knowing that it is super fresh, paragon free and not tested on animals.

  1. The hydration face mask for dry skin

Flaky skin is not a good look, if your skin is in need of a little extra moisture then look no further. The honey and coconut mask has got you covered. Follow these simple steps and nourish your skin back to where it should be.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 tablespoons of virgin coconut oil
  • ¼ cup of raw honey
  • 2-3 drops of lavender oil

Place the raw honey into a mixing bowl followed by the coconut and lavender oil. Thoroughly whisk these ingredients together using a motorised blender. Apply the mask with clean hands and wait 20 minutes before removing.

The coconut oil will leave your face soft and hydrated, help retain moister and leave your skin smelling like a tropical goddess. Raw honey is full of antioxidants, fights premature ageing and is effective in penetrating the skin for longer lasting hydration. The lavender oil reduces inflammation and accelerates the skin’s natural healing power, all without clogging your pores.

Apply this mask twice a week to reach optimum results.

  1. The oil control face mask for oily skin

Oily skin can be problematic for a number of reasons. Excess oil, also known as sebum, can sit on the skin’s surface clogging pores and absorbing impurities. This can lead to break outs and acne.  For those struggling with overactive sebaceous glands, this one’s for you.

What you’ll need:

  • ½ tablespoon of turmeric powder
  • 1 table spoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of yoghurt

Place the turmeric powder into a mixing bowl. Add the lemon juice and yoghurt and blend the ingredients together with a spoon. Once the mixture has formed into a creamy paste, apply the mask with clean hands or a cosmetic brush. Wait 5-10 minutes before rinsing.

Due to it’s fatty acids and plant sterols, turmeric has natural oil-controlling properties and is effective in removing harmful bacteria from your pores. The citric acid found in lemon juice is a powerful exfoliator, absorbing oil while nourishing the skin. Yoghurt’s lactic acid can assist in removing dead skin and tightening the pores, ideal for those battling with oily skin.

Apply this paste 3 times a week to treat oily skin.

  1. The combination face mask for combination skin

For those hit with the double whammy, both dry and oily skin, you’ve come to the right place. Combination skin can be a lot more complicated to cater to. For this reason, natural ingredients are recommended as they have fewer toxins and are more gentle on the skin.

What you’ll need:

  • ½ a ripe banana
  • 1 tablespoon of raw honey
  • 1 tablespoon of oats

With the back of a fork, mash up the banana in a small mixing bowl. Once the banana is completely mashed, add in the honey and oats. Stir the ingredients together to reach a thick paste.

Apply the mask with clean hands and wait 10-15 minutes before rinsing. Banana promotes a radiant complexion, it is rich in potassium and moisture and controls excess oil production.

Honey unclogs pores and deeply cleanses the skin, containing anti-septic and anti-bacterial properties. Oats are effective in soaking up excess sebum and can assist in the exfoliating of dead skin cells.

Apply this mask 1-2 times a week to treat combination skin.
