Born From Science and Blended with Nature

O Cosmedics is a new skincare brand made here in Australia, promising to combine the best of science and nature.

Its founder, Sydney-born skincare specialist Marie Enna-Cocciolone created the brand to empower women of all ages to increase confidence.

The range has launched with a wide selection of specialist products including moisturisers, serums and exfoliants which all help with the improvement of lines and wrinkles caused by Australia’s harsh climate.

Loaded with potent, concentrated active ingredients using the purest combination of medical grade ingredients, O Cosmedics skincare range works with skin to help maintain (or regain) normal skin function and cell optimisation.

In 1985, Marie studied with the Diana Nolan School of Beauty Therapy in Sydney. And after dedicating 20 years to being a beauty therapist working for others, Marie finally branched out on her own.

She believed she could make a real difference and bring back the heart and soul to the skincare therapy industry.

Bondi Beauty spoke with Marie to find out how science and skincare really works.

How did O Cosmedics start?

“O Cosmedics was created to support the maximum level of actives that constitute a more medical approach to skin care treatments and a visible skin result.

O was designed with the five major causes of ageing in mind to cater to the ageing population, giving the professional skin therapist enough actives to actually make a difference to skin.”

Tell us about the scientific aspect? Why is science and cosmetics such a good combination?

“Clichéd skincare terms like “beauty by nature” and “smell good, feel good” are now in the history books dated somewhere around 1980. Based on molecular medicine and today’s medical advancements, scientists have been given what we, in the 80s, could have only ever imagined as a ‘magic beauty wand’.

Through wound healing breakthroughs and biomimetic deliveries science in skin care allows us to stimulate cell activity to not only preserve the skin but correct and reverse actual skin damage.”

What are active ingredients?
“Active ingredients are natural or synthetic ingredients used in their “functional dosage” to change the physiological behaviour of the skin. The key word is “functional” which refers to the amount or percentage of active used.

Imagine an active that reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles when used in a product at 1% (the functional dosage). Products that abide by that required dosage are strong enough to make a difference to skin, whilst those that don’t are not.”

Why are they so important to our skin?
“As you age your cells try their very best to go into early retirement so to speak; their function slows down, they can become imbalanced and challenged to the point where we start to see a visible skin difference.

Active ingredients are important because they have the potential to stimulate cell optimisation and normal skin function preventing skin degradation.”

Why are peptides so important?
“A Peptide is a molecule made of two or more Amino Acids linked in a chain by the same bonds found in protein.

These links allow scientists to combine a number of different ingredients triggering multifaceted skin results which, because Peptides are tiny, have the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin’s layers. Combine that with ingredients that work in synergy and you have a brilliant skin treatment option.”
