Is This The Most Effective Way to Cleanse Your Skin?

Oil cleans your skin – Might sound far fetched, but many say it is the most effective way to cleanse your skin.

The idea of oil cleansing is to use specific blended oils to cleanse your face, and at the same time naturally re-balance the natural oils within your skin. The results are a more nourished, moisturised, clear skin that traditional soap and detergent based facial cleansers can’t produce.

Founders of Girl Lane, a new skin care range for young girls and made in Australia; Antoinette, Deborah and Kristie from Melbourne, say it’s because gel and foaming cleansers contain surfactants which work in much the same way as a dish-washing liquid does. They claim they strip both the good and the bad oils from your skin.

“Surfactants attach themselves to dirt and dead skin cells on one side and water on the other. This causes them to pull excess water out of your skin, leaving it feeling dry and tight. We then overcompensate with heavy facial moisturisers, which causes your skin to produce more oil than necessary.

“Leaving us with a more oily and dehydrated skin. When an oil based cleanser is used, it works to balance out the natural oil production of your skin. Which then boosts skin’s natural sebum.”

Sebum is a natural oil secreted by your skin’s sebaceous glands. When you have the right amount of sebum produced, it helps protect your skin from bacteria, pollution and the sun. Using the wrong cleanser can either strip your skin of these natural oils or cause your skin to overproduce it. This then results in your face either being very dry, or very oily which can often lead to blemish prone skin.

Deborah says: “We use a special blend of oils in our Girl Lane cleanser, which consists of jojoba, chamomile, antioxidants, aloe and calendula. Jojoba closely mimics your skins natural sebum, allowing it to go deep into the pores for an efficient clean.”

“The chamomile then helps to reduce any inflammation, antioxidants help sooth any skin irritation and fight free radicals caused from pollution and the calendula and aloe softens your skin, leaving it well hydrated throughout the day.”

The founders of this new natural skincare brand are all mothers. Antoinette has over 15 years-experience in business consultancy, Deborah 15 years-experience as a Pharmacist and Kristie 17 years-experience in finance.

All three are very close friends and recognised the need for a skincare range designed for young female skin, when witnessing first-hand the effects other products were having on their daughters’ skin.

“What’s so great about the Girl Lane products, is anyone can use them really. We even use them. Even though the product is marketed for young girls, they are formulated with Australia’s harsh climate in mind. The concept of the skincare range is to help your skin be at its best, without causing any damage, like other harsh skincare products out there.”

The Girl Lane skincare range is now available in all Priceline stores across Australia.
