Beauty Review: Laser Skin Treatment by Skin Renu

clear + brilliant laser skin treatment

We sent a Bondi Beauty writer to trial the Clear + Brilliant Laser Treatment by Skin Renu in Balmain.

Laser skin treatments are nothing new and have been circulating in skin clinics and day spas for a while now, as the next evolutionary skin treatment process from having a microdermabrasion.

For anyone not up to speed on laser treatments, what it is, what it does and the benefits, laser resurfacing is when infrared laser technology is used as a treatment to reduce facial wrinkles and skin irregularities, removing scaring, acne and blemishes.

The infrared laser directs short concentrated beams of light, which pulsate through the skin cells to remove irregular skin, removing old skin (dead skin cells) layer by layer to reveal fresh, new and more youthful looking skin.

And the benefits range from visibly illuminated skin tone, renewed, softer and smoother texture and naturally radiant and glowing skin.

Skin Renu use a revolutionary new approach to laser skincare, using a highly effective, yet gentle skincare laser treatment which has been clinically proven to fight the effects of ageing, taking skin to a whole new level.

The treatment is a gentle laser called fractional laser technology which passes across your skin and creates millions of microscopic treatment zones in the skin, replacing damaged skin with healthy, younger looking tissue. As this fractional laser treatment is gentle on the skin, it’s perfect for any newbie to the world of skin laser treatments.

BB writer Rebecca trialled Clear + Brilliant with Skin Renu and here’s what she says:

“I was so nervous about the treatment, as I have never really been one to explore the world of invasive skin treatments.

I have been doing micros for seven years now and for the last three years, my therapist has been trying to convince me to take the next step and move into laser treatments, which is the next level up from micros. I always said no. Micros work for me, so why change a good thing.

My skin type is also very temperamental. Meaning, I am still prone to breakouts, have oily skin most times of the month and when I am stressed and run down (or eat the wrong foods) my skin turns dry and flaky. Then there are the hormonal breakouts I am prone to.

I always assumed having laser would mean more treatments. I mean, how many times do I need to take off the top layer of skin before I have great skin. The problem is, with skin still rapidly changing (yes even at the age of thirty-nine), I suppose my miseducation on laser led to me never having it.

I was completely reassured by the therapist Jess at Skin Renu that their Clear + Brilliant treatment is gentle, though I will still feel the burn during and after and they also use a topical anaesthetic to help keep my skin calm and relaxed throughout the process.

The process itself was fine and I was super surprised how much it didn’t hurt and laughed inside at how concerned I was that I would be in agonising pain. It really did feel like instant sun burn, which is what my therapist Jess from Skin Renu said, and she was right.

The treatment was quick and I felt fine, turns out there was nothing for me to be anxious about after all. Phew. Though I was a little shocked when I looked in the mirror afterwards. Red as a tomato and hot as hell.

I drove all the way home with the air con on the coldest temp possible, to keep my face from burning off, which was difficult as it was Autumn, and cold outside. So, whilst my body was freezing from the air con, my face felt great under the cool air.

I was told to stay off antioxidant serums and creams for the week, no active ingredients and use the most hydrating skin care products around. Skin Renu always recommend Medik8 as a post treatment skincare afterwards and I was lucky to have a few of those products laying around – the many perks of being a beauty writer.

However, I’ll admit I did apply a very thick layer of Aloe Vera to my face continously for the first two days to help keep skin calm and well hydrated before moving onto using other products.

The verdict: my skin did look amazing for the first week after treatment and I do still look pretty good if I am being completely honest.

However, with that time of the month on the horizon and a few outbreaks already starting to appear with dry spots and excessive oiliness also forming from hormone issues, the results of the laser treatment are almost long gone.

Would I go again? Possibly. Though, I don’t think I would ever have this treatment in the Summer months, because boy did it burn.”
