Would You Spend More Than 1k on a Facial?

are expensive facials really worth it

Where do you set the limit on how much you’re willing to spend on a facial treatment? And is it really worth it.

In 2017, London-based celebrity facialist Joanne Evans launched her specialist facial treatment which involves a two and a half hour treatment of vitamin injections, lasers, ultrasound, a weird mask, a dermabrasion, and even an acid peel.

The facial will set you back around 1K pounds in the UK, which is around 2K Aussie dollar, and it got me thinking. Would I ever spend that on a facial and is it really worth it?

So, I started searching online in Sydney for any facial treatments valued anywhere between 1 to 2k to see what they all offered.

From a 1.8K Remodelling Face Procedure in Cronulla to a 1K Light Therapy Face Treatment in Double Bay, there were so many different clinics across Sydney offering a platter of very expensive facial treatments.

All facials involved procedures of laser, light and intensive treatment processes, and made promises to eliminate the signs of ageing, reduce pigmentation and even lighten freckles, treat acne and overall, help make skin look and feel more soft, supple and youthful. However, that doesn’t mean these facials actually deliver on these promises.

But here’s the thing. As someone who has spent the last seven years having a microdermabrasion treatment once a month, which averages around 1k a year (not per treatment) and only seeing results after the first three treatments when I began my micro journey, I do wonder, how many of these 1k per facial treatments would you need to receive before you receive results? Maybe two or three?

That’s already over 3k right there. That’s a lot of money when there is no real assurance you will get the promised results.

Seven years later my skin is the best it can be for someone my age; which is 39, I have no problems sharing this figure with you. Overall, I am pretty happy with my skin. It is both oily and dry and is constantly prone to breakouts when I eat cheese or any other dairy for that matter.

If I don’t eat enough green veggies or eat gluten, and overall simply indulge on a variety of foods I am not supposed to eat (thankfully chocolate is not one of them) it generally results in my skin breaking out.

So, the idea of paying over 1K for a facial treatment to help me deal with any skin conditions whilst breaking out because I decided to eat that garlic bread last night which was NOT gluten-free, really doesn’t appeal to me at all.

A few weeks back, I was invited to receive a wonderful Skin Laser Treatment called Clear + Brillant with a facial clinic in Balmain, called Skin Renu. You can read that story here. Beofre this treatment, I had never explored laser facials, even though I was told it is the next evolutionary step from a micro treatment.

After the treatment, when my skin felt like it had been burnt off and I my face was on fire, I was told within the week I would see some incredible results to my skin. But, of course, there is always the disclaimer of ‘but you do need to have at least two to three treatments before you see incredible results.’

I’ll admit, for the first three to fours days my skin did look revitalised and I was glowing. But a full week later and my skin went right back to its usual self of oily spots, dry spots and of course breakouts as it was that time of the month. A full week later and you would not have even known I had a laser treatment done.

This isn’t a reflection on Skin Renu of course, the treatment (though super uncomfortable afterwards) was pretty awesome and it was nice to enjoy fresh and renewed skin for a week before it went back to its old temperamental self, I really just don’t see the point and if you are considering spending more than 1k on a facial, I would certainly recommend you try other options first.

Because you never know, there may be an eighty-five dollar facial waiting around the corner for you, which will give you the most amazing result ever. And wouldn’t that be something to write home about?

My Favourite Beauty Product of the Week:

PÜR PRO X Etienne Ortega Eyeshadow Palette RRP $30

I may be showing my age here, but it was not so long ago when you would purchase an eyeshadow palette of more than five or six shades and only three of four of the shades were actually worthy of the purchase.

Weird shades of blue, green and purple would be mixed in with you sultry shades of grey, blacks and deep browns and it was rare to find the appropriate shade of nude to help you blend any of your chosen shades for the eye.

Thankfully this palette has erased most of those bad memories for me, restoring my hope in an eye palette worthy of mentioning and with a selection of shades for any time of the day and year, whether you’re going for a natural summer look or a mysterious and sexy winter look.

The palette is well pigmented, even my oily eyelids manage to keep the colour of these eyeshadows a little longer than normal, a real record breaker for me. And I am loving the mix of matte and metallic tones in this palette, with just the right amount of bling and not too much.

Trust me when I say, this will be your go to palette for a while. I’m currently obsessing over the deep blue called Midnight and I love blending it with the natural shade tones of Faux, Zenon and Stripped.
