This is How I Manage My Curly Hair from AM to PM

I tried and tested seven hair products which help me manage my curly hair from first thing in the morning to before I go to bed at night.

Of course, many of the products I tested aren’t exactly specially formulated just for curly hair, they also work wonders for straight, frizzy, wavy, combination and fussy hair which can’t decide what it wants to be (which in truth is me most days actually).

Although I am classed as curly hair, absolutely no doubt about it actually. From time to time, depending on the season, my hair can seem flat and straight at the roots and with a small wave at the bottom.

Or even worse, completely dry and frizzy from the roots and then luscious and curly at the ends. I mean why couldn’t the luscious curls start from the roots. It’s can be frustrating managing my curly hair. And you would think after more than thirty years I would have mastered the art of curly hair.

Well in some part I have mastered it, however, when Mother Nature decided to flip the weather from dry and hot to wet and humid, especially in summer. No matter of expertise or curly hair mastering can compensate.

However, if you have the right arsenal of hair care products to help you manage it, no matter the climate, it does make things easier to deal with, whether you decide to straighten it, curl it (by defining what natural curls you have with a curler), or leave it natural.

Here are seven products I have been trialing for more than three months, and how they have helped me have the best looking curl hair I can have from AM to PM.

Bondi Boost Curl Boss Styling Cream RRP $39.95

Styling products for curly hair, are as equally important as shampoos, conditioners and treatments. However, I always find for curly hair in particular, more often than not, you can use any type of shampoo and conditioner, as long as you are using a good quality styling product to help manage the curls.

This curl booster styling cream has become my new go-to product. I apply a decent amount to my hair, spreading it from root to ends (or ends to roots) and then let it either dry naturally, or section my hair off and twirl to define the curls. It’s a great product for any type of curly look you want to achieve.

Kristine Ess Soft Shine Beach Wave Spray RRP $19.99

Love, love, love this product and it smells amazing. Unlike Sea Salt texturing sprays, this one has been specially formulated to be used on dry styled hair, to lock in moisture and your new hot style, without hardening the hair like some hairsprays, leaving it soft and shiny and super styled.

It doesn’t work as well on naturally curly hair, though I did try it once. It lasted for at least half a day, before my hair went a little frizzy and needed a little more moisture to help contain the curl. But when I used it after styling my hair with a curler, my hair retained the curls for longer and it felt super soft and was shining like the sun.

Marc Anthony Bye Bye Frizz Blow Dry Cream RRP $18.99

This cream is great for curly, straight and combination hair. No matter the look and style of hair you have, the cream works to keep flyaways at bay and reduces frizz. This is the product I have been using when I want to style my hair for either a curly or straight look.

You apply a small amount to your hair, especially the ends and then blow dry normally and straighten or curl with a wand, depending on the look you wish too achieve. I found it worked perfectly the night before styling, by leaving in my hair overnight, then styling my hair in the morning, for the perfect frizz-free look.

Key ingredients are: Hydrolyzed Silk, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Keratin, Hydrolyzed Keratin and Citric Acid – all of which work to contain frizz, whilst still letting your hair breath also.

LUSH Cosmetics H’Suan Wen Hua Hair Treatment RRP $27.95

This fabulous hair treatment is one my favourite LUSH products, and is part of their NEW haircare range. Unlike other haircare products, you don’t need to wash your hair first, which I love. You apply a good dose of this hair treatment into dirty hair until your hair is wet and smooth and then let it sit for more than 45-minutes. I did an hour for good measure, as the weather has been insanely hot in Sydney.

After your hair has soaked up all the goodies from this treatment, just wash and you’re done,. No shampooing is required. Yep, you heard me right. You can shampoo if you like, but it’s not necessary if you want hair to stay well hydrated and nourished.

Key ingredients of this product are: Water, Bay Leaves, Watercress, Avocado, Bananas, Balsamic Vinegar, Olive Oil, Rosemary and Cinnamon. I mean can you get any more natural with this product. Lush really now how to do natural beauty well.

Garnier Fructis Nourishing Treat 1-minute Hair Mask RRP $6.49

Now you’re talking, a hair mask which gives you all the nourishing your hair needs in just one minute. This is the perfect hair mask for those moments when you are rushed for time, but need to wash and style your hair quick. Especially if your hair is suffering a little from all the summer parties and dealing with the Aussie heat.

My hair felt instantly restored after using only once, with all those silly frizzy flyaways at the roots of my hair disappearing for the night. Although I chose to let my hair dry naturally with natural curls, I have also used this treatment before blow drying and found my hair super smooth after straightening and curls redefined if using a curler.

Key ingredients off this product are: Coconut Extract, Shea Butter, Olive Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil and Rosemary. It smells amazing and the texture is smooth and soft on hair.

Tigi Texturising Salt Spray RRP $24.99

For those days when you haven’t had a chance to wash your hair, and you’re looking to quickly refresh your hairstyle, giving it beach hair style of natural waves or curls. This product works really well on straight hair in particular, but can also add a little vibrance to curly hair. By enhancing the natural curl look for a one night style only.

Curly hair can often reject salt spray products, as they can tangle the hair, making it knotty and difficult to manage. So if you do use this product in curly hair, I recommend you use art for one style only before washing your hair. I made the mistake of letting my hair go three days without washing after using, which made it very difficult when it came time to washing.

Garnier Fructis Soothing Macadamia Hair Food RRP $10.99

Perfect for pampering your hair with much needed nutrients too restore hair back to it’s natural look, especially after a week of styling. I recommend this hair treatment for the nights when you’re at home and have no plans to go anywhere, as the longer you leave the mask the better. And a hot towel will also come in handy.

It’s completely chemical free, so no harmful ingredients and works wonders for getting rid of frizzy hair, whether you are curly or straight. I soaked my hair after shampooing with this treatment for at least an hour and a half and wrapped my hair with a hot towel to open the hair folicles so it would soak in all the goodness.

This products is made of a 98% biodegradable formula which will break down in water, causing absolutely no harm to our marine life. It contains, Purified Water, Vegetable Alcohol & Glycerin, Macadamia Oil, Jojoba and Sunflower Oil, with added Almond and Coconut Oil.
