The Skincare Ingredients I Swear By for Younger Looking Skin

the skincare products you need for winter

Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, Prebiotics and Rosehip Oil. These are just some of the ingredients you’ll need to achieve younger looking skin.

Want to achieve healthy, glowing and younger looking skin? Read on.

With a million and one products which promise perfect, flawless skin, knowing which products work for you and your skin can be overwhelming. And in all honesty, who has the time to try them all. Am I right?

From dry skin, oily skin, to combination skin, blemish free but inflamed skin, to blemish prone and flat looking skin, we all have different skin types and we all require different ingredients to help us resolve our skin concerns.

Despite these differences, we actually all have one thing in common – trying to keep skin hydrated and well moisturised.

Manhattan-based dermatologist and Garnier skin-care consultant Dr Diane Medfas says: “Without moisture, our skin is more sensitive to external forces such as sun exposure. This results in cracking, flaking and peeling.”

And this isn’t just for dry skin types. Oily skin types also fall victim to dryness and flakiness. This is because oily skin produces more oil as a defence mechanism to balance out the loss of moisture on this skin.

Dermatologists such as Shasa Hu, a board-certified dermatologist and co-founder of the skin-care consultation service BiaLife all confirm, when using the right type of ingredients on your skin, you’re able to balance the skin. For example, oily skin types should use oil-based products as the good oil attracts bad oil and can even dissolve sebum, grease or makeup, without stripping the skin of its natural oils.

For my skin type, which is combination / oily I tend to gravitate towards products which include ingredients like Roship Oil, Moringa Oil, and Jojoba Oil to repair and restore cell health, Vitamin C to help with combating the sign of ageing and pigmentation, and Hyaluronic Acid which helps balance moisture and keep skin hydrated.

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is critical in maintaining skin hydration as helps to hydrate the skin and maintain this hydration as a humectant. The substance works as a magnet for moisture, helping your cells retain as much of it as possible so that your skin feels and appears hydrated, plump and healthy.

These ingredients have become quintessential for many beauty brands, a must have in many moisturising products to help achieve healthy, young looking skin. And the best part is these ingredients work for any skin type, no matter the concern.

For several weeks, I trialled the following products which promise to work for any type of skin, with any type of concern.

Luxe for Less – Bargain Product of the Month

Sukin Rejuvenating Rosehip Facial Scrub RRP $14.99

Made from Rosehip Seeds and Walnut Shells, this facial scrub effectively exfoliates the skin to reveal a clear and fresh complexion which glows.

With the added ingredients such as nourishing quandong, camellia and essential fatty acids, this scrub will also help to revitalise skin after a long day, helping to lift tired skin to look more vibrant and plump.

Genus Cell Relief Nutritive Cleanser RRP $99

Loaded with prebiotics and natural botanical oils, this cleanser nurtures the concept of cleansing the oil on your skin, rather than stripping it. Designed to remove makeup, dirt and grime without removing moisture, skin is left feeling nourished and hydrated after use, rather than dry and squeaky clean.

Prebiotics in skincare help reduce the size of pores and help the regeneration process of damaged skin cells from environmental damage, acne and blemishes.

Anthogenol Anti-ageing Facial Serum $69.99

Formulated with advanced antioxidant ingredients which combat skin ageing and pigmentation, this serum has been fortified with premium essential oils to hydrate and soften skin and can be used both in the AM and the PM. This serum uses scientific innovation and over fifty years of research to provide a targeted solution for concerns related to ageing skin and hydration.

This lightweight, bioactive formula absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving it feeling plumper and more revitalised, and helps improve overall texture and appearance.

Mesoestetic Proteoglycans Ampoules RRP $98

Don’t be deceived by this tiny little bottle as it packs a powerful punch of antioxidants to the skin. Infused with ingredients such as vitamin C, Vitamin F and Proteoglycans which boost natural collagen in the skin, this tiny elixir of magic serum will straighten skin cells and keep them healthy and nourished throughout the day.

Ten pods come in a pack and you can get at least 3 days out of a pod. There is a handy kit in the box with this product, which has a little stand to help support the pod whilst in the bathroom cabinet and a lid to replace the glass onCe you snap IT off (before use) to keep the product fresh and stop it spilling.

Sukin SPF30 Sheer Touch Tinted Sunscreen RRP $24.95

For the day, after applying A serum, I recommend you using a light weight, but hydrating sunscreen to protect the skin, as the UV rays don’t take a break, no matter the season. This sunscreen is lightly tinted too, for those days on the weekend when you want to go makeup free. It has been infused with reship oil, so not only will it protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun, it will also nourish and repair skin cell growth throughout the day too.

Rosehip Oil contains phenols which have been shown to have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties and ideal helping you achieve optimum skin health.

The Jojoba Company Ultimate Youth Potion RRP $44.95

For night time, after applying serums, I recommend using this face oil to repair any damage and keep skin well nourished and hydrated whilst sleeping. Jojoba oil is also great for assisting in the healing of acne and blemishes, including scarring.

This oil has been enriched with the patented L22® formula which mimics the skin lipid profile of a healthy twenty two year old, to deeply hydrate, firm and restore the complexion. Putting back what age takes away.

Mesoestetic Hydra-vital Factor K RRP $139

This has been my go-to daily moisturiser, as the formulation is well worth the price (which comes with it). It absorbs fast (into the skin) with a matte finish and you can apply foundation within seconds after applying it. It is an ultra moisturising cream designed particularly for dry skin which requires a little smoothness and elasticity to be restored to the surface.

Research has found Vitamin K can help speed up the natural healing and repair process in damaged skin, which is why it’s an effective ingredient in any skincare and often used post laser and filler treatments.

Swisse Skincare Hemp Seed Replenishing Cream Moisturiser RRP $29.99

Infused with the healing benefits of Manuka honey and made using shea butter, this is the ultimate nourishing and hydrating cream and can be used in the day or at night. I used this cream as my PM cream and found the hemp component soothing after a long day of wearing makeup and being in the sun.

Hemp oil in skincare is proving to be an effective ingredient for moderating oil production. It balances out oily skin, whilst still hydrating it, and won’t clog pores in the process. In some studies hemp oil is also helping to reduce acne which is caused by excess oils.

Medik8 Ultimate Recovery Bio-Cellulose Mask RRP $96 (pack of 6 sheet masks)

For the ultimate hydration boost at the end of the day, these sheet maskS are loaded (up) with Zinc and Hyaluronic Acid, with the added benefits of Bio-Cellulose and Rockweed Algae also. All of which repair skin cell health and boost the skin’s moisture for a nourishing soft feel.

Bio-Cellulose is an organic skin care material that’s cultured in a lab and infused with beneficial skin care ingredients. Making it the perfect delivery system for the Rockweed Algae component of the mask, which has carotene, selenium, zinc, and vitamins A, C and E all of which are anti-aging and anti-inflammatory.

I lived in these sheet masks for a week and was sad when the box became empty. My skin had never felt more repaired, restored and hydrated when using one a day. Though that was fairly excessive of me, you probably only need to use a mask a week.

E.S.K Hydroxy Overnight Mask RRP $50

This overnight mask has been a real winner for my skin, as it uses Salicylic Acid which works to exfoliating and hydrate your skin whilst you sleep at night. Although I don’t have acne prone skin, I am prone to hormonal breakouts, and when I eat the wrong thing. This is ideal for such skin types, as it it helps to remove keratin and old skin cells.

TIP: You can use this product as a spot treatment on blemishes too, it worked rather effectively to remove dead skin cells and dirt on the blemish, helping it heal faster.

This overnight mask also contains Aloe Vera which will naturally nourish and protect skin, resulting in soothed and well hydrated skin in the morning.

There are also some ways to help improve your inside health as well, using protein and vitamin rich ingredients which you ingest to help boost skin health and overall health, for younger looking skin.
