Sweat-Proof Summer Beauty Hacks

Six summer beauty hacks I use to keep my face sweat-proof.

Whilst there is a lot to love about summer. For any beauty lover, it’s a cosmetic nightmare. With melting makeup, smudging liners and eyeshadows and smearing mascara.

Thankfully there are ways of sweat-proofing your makeup to help you battle the humidity and heat of summer. These beauty tricks have been my saving grace for many years, coming to the rescue when the days reach over thirty degrees and you require a little more TLC to keep your face from melting, along with all your makeup.

Carry a hydrating mist:

Even in winter, to keep skin looking hydrated and dewy I always carry a hydrating mist designed to stop makeup from melting and to keep skin looking soft and well hydrated. I use different mists for different seasons, as you require them to do different things. For summer I use a mix of the Swisse Rosewater Balancing Mist Toner (RRP $9.09) and the Shu Uemura Skin Perfector Mist (RRP $52).

However, I have recently fallen in love with the new Beauty Blender Re-Dew Set and Re-set Spray (RRP $55)

Manage the glow:

If you aren’t already using a primer, start now. Primers are the best in summer, as they seal the foundation and help your skin stay fresh, hydrated and they also prevent the foundation from seeping into the pores, which blocks the skin from breathing.

For breathable primers, try Beauty Blender Opal Essence (RRP $48) which is a light-weight serum-based serum, rather than a heavy cream-based one.

Stay away from powder foundations also, as they will dry out the skin and leave a pasty look to the complexion. Embrace the shine for summer and use a setting powder instead, like Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Blotting Powder (RRP $46) which will soften the shine rather than completely matte it out.

Apply makeup under air conditioner:

Okay, so I know this one sounds a little weird. However, living in Cairns in the tropical heat for five years has taught me, there is absolutely nothing wrong with applying your foundation under the air conditioner to keep it from melting off your sweaty skin in the heat.

If you’re able, try setting the timer for your air conditioner, so it turns on at home an hour before waking, ensuring there is a nice comfortable temperature to help you get ready for the day.

Often, when I forget to set the timer on the air conditioner, I will give myself extra time in the morning by sitting in the car and pumping the air conditioner up and apply my makeup in the car.

Keep it light:

Switch your heavy foundation for a lighter one or replace with a tinted CC or BB cream which will not only keep skin well hydrated in the day, it will also absorb into the skin, rather than melt off in the heat, as most heavy foundations used in winter can be oil-based and it will make skin look greasy sweaty in the heat.

Use a good concealer for any spots and blend into the skin with your tinted moisturiser for a natural summer look, which will not only last longer in the heat, it will ensure skin stays moisturised and clear from any congestion also.

Use water-resistant mascara and eye liner:

To prevent any smudging marks from mascara and eye liner, switch to products that are waterproof to ensure they stay put in the heat. I use Models Own Aquaproof Mascara in Black (RRP $14.95), which is outstanding as a waterproof mascara as it is easy to remove with cleansing oils and micellar water, and yet stays strong when sweating and swimming.

For a sultry and exotic look for summer, don’t apply eye liner under the eye. Focus more on the top lid and polish off with wearing mascara on the top lashes only. This will not only prevent your eyes from looking to heaving in the warmer months, but it will keep the under-eye area clean looking and fresher for a dewy summer goddess look.

Use eye creams and eye serums:

The first place to dry out on the face in the warmer months, is the delicate eye area. So, make sure you keep these well moisturised by using a worthy eye serum and eye cream and don’t be too stingy with the product, in summer, you can never apply too much.

And remember to keep foundation light around the eye areas. Stay away from applying foundation directly under the eye area, and lightly blend upwards from the check bones with a blending brush, so the foundation will sweep over the eye area, but the layer will be thin. This prevents the foundation from seeping into any fine lines and wrinkles, keeping you looking younger and fresher in the heat.

My Favourite Beauty Product of the Week:

Innisfree Jeju Cherry Blossom Tone-up Cream RRP $36

This new release face moisturiser by Korean super beauty brand Innisfree is next level in face moisturisers and hydration. Made with cherry blossoms which grow on Jeju Island, this cream is rich with antioxidants thanks to the mineral-rich volcanic soil of the island, where the cherry blossoms grow.

The texture of this cream is light, and the formulation is rich, making the combination perfect for combating any dry skin conditions, which will result in soft and supple skin all day long.

I love how this cream acts as both a moisturiser and as a skin primer under foundation. I rarely use a primer as I am always pressed for time in the morning, so this makes the perfect alternative combining to important products for a polished look with my makeup.

Absorbing an abundance of minerals from the soil, the cherry blossom is then cultivated to create this very fragrant face cream, which can also be used as a skin primer before applying foundation. It smells exactly like the first bloom of cherry blossoms of spring, very floral, but not sweet in scent at all.
