New Beauty Trends The BB Team Have Adopted for the Sydney Lockdown.

exploring new beauty trends in self isolation

I chat to the Bondi Beauty team (via Zoom) on what beauty trends they are adopting during the second Sydney lockdown.

First published in July 2020 and updated now for July 2021.

Spending more time at home then ever during the COVID-19 crisis has allowed so many people, including myself, to take a break from the onset of trialling too many beauty products. Which more often than not, you know don’t work for you, but you’ll try anyway. Because well heck, some beauty influencer on Instagram said it was amazing.

The BB team have opted to use this time in lockdown to really hone in on what works for us and what doesn’t. And what genuine and honest beauty trends really resonate with us as a person.

Check out my previous column on beauty trends I’ve adopted whilst being in self isolation.

Unable to get to any beauty salons, I have used my time in self-isolation to start trialling varying beauty devices I haven’t yet had the chance to use. Like the HappySkin Co Classic IPL at home Hair Removal Device RRP $199

Before COVID-19 many beauty devices were sidelined in preference for treatments at the local salon. But, I am really digging the concept of creating your very own beauty salon at home, using so many fantastic devices, all designed to give you the best treatments in the comfort of your own home.

Although IPL hair removal devices are hardly a new trend, with the hibernation of beauty salons during this global crisis, I have found many beauty influencers on YouTube, Twitter and Instagram are bringing the trend back on many at home beauty devices. The new way of treating yourself to an at home luxury beauty treatment.

These are the beauty trends the BB team are adopting whilst in self-isolation.

BB founder Renae’s favourite beauty trend is:

“Prior to the whole COVID-19 crisis, I was actually travelling through Europe and the UK. Celebrated make up artist Pat McGrath had released her very own makeup range in Selfridges in London, and she is all about coverage and colour.

So full coverage foundation, strong matte lips and sculpting sticks. I was lucky enough to purchase it when I was there, so I am trying it out to give myself a boost on fast days inside (my kids think it’s crazy to wear make-up inside but pfffft. I like it.)

Her rage just released across all Sephora stores in Australia too – exciting!

I am also using leave-in conditioners and oils. Olaplex No7 Bonding Oil or No4 leave in conditioner give me amazing results if I pop a little on the ends before bed and rinse it the next day. Bondi Boost also has a great leave-in conditioner.”

BB writer Tara says her favourite beauty trend right now is:

“I’m loving the focus on skincare and creating a flawless base from the inside out. As someone that has suffered from acne and acne scarring, the idea of sheer foundations or a bare face in general has been quite daunting.

However, with the increase of new and effective beauty powders and highly effective skin serums, my skin is now the best it has been in years and I feel more confident than ever to rock the minimal coverage look.”

BB writer Anisha shares her top beauty trend:

“Strangely enough the beauty trend I’m loving the most right now is people embracing their natural complexion. For example, I love when people allow their freckles to peep through their foundation or when they let their blemishes be free by using a minimal amount of concealer over their spots.

In my opinion, the porcelain doll look is getting old. Realness is the new face of beauty and I am 100% here for it.”

BB writer Zoe says her favourite beauty trends right now is:

“I’m loving that more and more people are embracing natural and thick eyebrows. While I love to darken mine with a powder, I love that nowadays there’s not as much pressure to ensure that every thin hair is perfectly in place or perfectly defined. It is a perfect trend to adopt during isolation.

My Favourite Beauty Product of the Week:

Peter Thomas Roth Skin To Die For Redness Reducing Treatment Face Primer RRP $59

A real game changer for anyone with sensitive skin, uneven skin tone, and especially skin prone to red spots or overall redness on the face.

I’ll admit, as a non-primer wearer, I was hesitant at first to trial this product.

With pores the size of mars and skin prone to excessive congestion when I wear too many makeup products, such as primers, then foundation, then followed by a powder. I do tend to avoid products I don’t think I really need.

However, I am quite often prone to having redness on the skin and often need a little assistance in controlling that redness before applying foundation. Having tried varying other red controlling products in the past, using the green toned technology, which works to hide red under foundation. I often find throughout the day, the green of the product will shine through. Making me look very sick in appearance.

This is not that type of product. And you don’t even have to have redness to use this product either.

With a sheer shade adjusting treatment, this primer visibly neutralising and imperfections on the skin, especially redness. And will even assist in balancing out uneven skin tone. It’s light weight, easy to apply with any makeup brush and also blends really well with foundation.

And the best part, no green tones shine through tour foundation, half way throughout the day.
