Like it or not, America leads the way in many areas of consumerism, and beauty is no different with loads of new trends coming out of NYC and LA.

During a recent trip to the USA, Bondi Beauty Founder Renae Leith-Manos noted these trends:

Personalised Beauty: Watch out for personalised moisturiser, foundation and even tanning lotion.

French beauty brand Clarins already has a fabulous new tanning product you add to your regular moisturiser  each time you use it to personalise the amount of tan you have on your face, whilst US candle brands already offer to mix your own blends and some even put your own slogan on the glass jar. Standby for more products in this direction.

Many products, not just beauty are going through a huge personalising phase. At Top Shop in the USA and UK for example, you can personalise your own clothing by picking a combinations of prints and slogans, and standby while your t-shirt is made while you wait, and everything from Nutella to cake mix can be made and delivered to you with your name on it.

Free beauty services on offer: Everyone from Sephora to MAC are offering make overs or partial make overs for free or at a small price redeemable on your product purchase. You can learn how to do a smokey eye whilst a professional artist does your make-up- gratis. This is such a great way to educate yourself about new beauty trends and learn how to wear the right make-up for your skin type and face. The pop-up MAC make-up studio in NYC is already a run away success.

Fashion brands becoming beauty companies: Everyone from Banana Republic to Zara and Victoria’s Secret have their own fragrance range, but beauty products from high end body and face moisturisers to lip gloss, polish and eye shadow are flooding the market. With fragrances from a multitude of high end designer labels including Balmain, Burberry, Ralph Lauren stand by for high end beauty – if it’s not on shelves already.

Beauty by vending machine? Yep, you bet.
JFK is packed with beauty vending machines – and the good news is there are a lot less calories than fast food vending machines. You can get everything from a  last minute face spray for the journey to moisturiser, fragrance, hand cream and lipstick with the right coins – or card and the flick of a switch. Loreal, Sephora, and Elizabeth Arden are just some of the brands who have  vending machines in the big cities. But given there are vending machines for cupcakes in The States, why are we surprised?
