8 Tips for Creating A ‘No Makeup” Natural Makeup Look

8 tips for creating a “no makeup” natural makeup look.

In theory, creating a natural makeup look should be easier than going full glam. But often the skin is left looking cakey and over the top, and therefore not natural. For the best natural makeup look, follow these tips and trick below.

It’s All About That Base

One way to get fresh, glowing, natural looking skin for a base is to add a little bit of moisturiser to a foundation. This will dial down the coverage and give the skin a dewy, more natural finish. To give a super glowing look to the skin, add a drop of a liquid illuminator to the foundation – it will instantly leave the skin with that ‘post facial’ freshness and glow.

Conceal or not to Conceal

Concealing any blemishes on the skin sounds like an obvious fix to creating a flawless, natural makeup look. However, overdoing the concealing can leave the skin looking cakey, and the undereye ashy. When applying concealer, avoid focusing on all flaws, and stick to the few that are most noticeable. By eliminating the big issues, the face will instantly be lifted, while leaving the natural tone to the skin.

Light Powder

If using a powder on the face, always opt for a light, mineral based product. By using a light product, the makeup won’t cake. Always apply the powder product with a brush or sponge to create a non-streaky finish, which will create a flawless look to the skin.

Mute That Blush

Blush is an essential in creating a no makeup look, as naturally most skin has pink tones in the face. While blush is key, it is important to not overdo the face with colour. Choose subtle pink, nude or peach tones, and apply to where the cheek usually shows pink pigment for a completely natural flushed cheek look.

Bronze Right

When creating a natural makeup look, less is more. Using bronzer correctly to slightly contour the face, rather than darkening the skin will help to create a natural glowing face. Apply bronzer around the face and on the cheekbone for optimum natural face definition while still creating a tanned, sun-based glow.

Neutral Eyes

When creating a natural eye makeup look, stick to neutral, natural colours such as browns, golds, pinks and peaches. Use a colour 2 shades darker than the skin tone and apply directly on the eyelid without adding depth and definition. By keeping the eye makeup simple, a natural highlight will be created around the eyes, without the appearance of heavy makeup.

Go Nude

For a simple, no makeup lip look, always opt for nude, pink, peach or sand tones. This will draw attention to the lips, without using heavy makeup or unnatural pigments that will remove the illusion of no makeup. For an even simpler look, simply add a clear, nude or pink gloss over the lips.

Lashes

For light lashes, a thin layer of mascara is all that are needed to create a natural makeup look. The thin layer of mascara will still make the eye stand out without adding an unnatural volume to the lashes. For darker, fuller lashes, mascara may be skipped entirely.

Amie Maclaine

Amie is a self-professed make up addict with a larger perfume collection than anyone in the southern hemisphere. There’s not a night of the week you won’t find her without a face mask on, and cup of peppermint tea in hand. With a passion for all things food and wellness, she’s the first to jump on a new heath trend. If she’s not rocking one of her well-loved rugby jumpers, you’ll find her in her active wear, Almond Dirty Chai in-tow, ready to take on the day.
