Disclaimer: Do it for the health benefits, not for the taste.

1. ORANGE + GINGER + HONEY + TURMERIC

Makes 1 | Ingredients:

  • ½ cup of freshly squeezed orange juice
  • ½ inch of grated ginger
  • 2 tbsp of Manuka honey
  • Pinch of turmeric

Whisk all together, pour into a glass and drink.

With recommendations by fitness guru, Lorna Jane Clarkson, this combination is full of antioxidants and vitamins to keep your immunity in full force. Bonus: You don’t need a juicer.

The oranges, known for their high Vitamin C content, can help fight infection.

Likewise, the anti-inflammatory qualities of ginger, as well as the potent antioxidants in turmeric, will help ease sore muscles and throats. Manuka Honey, higher in antibacterial compounds than other types of honey, is also a must in fighting off a cold.

Although, if you don’t have Manuka on hand, look for a dark honey, as the darker the colour, the higher its antibacterial potency.

2. CARROTS + GINGER + LEMONS + GARLIC:

Makes 6 | Ingredients:

  • 4 carrots
  • Thumb sized ginger, grated
  • 2 peeled
  • Lemons
  • 2-4 cloves of garlic

Combine ingredients in juicer and drink.

Carrots, being naturally sweet, will not only add some natural sugar to the mix, but balance out the flavours. Also being packed with antioxidants, Vitamin A and Beta Carotene are vital in supporting the immune system.

Likewise, lemons are rich in Vitamin C and garlic, a rich anti-inflammatory and natural antibiotic, will also help to boost immune function.

3. LEMON + CAYENNE PEPPER + ECHINICHIA + GINGER + TURMERIC:

Makes 2 | Ingredients:

  • 2 juiced lemons
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
  • ¼ tsp Echinacea powder
  • 1-inch fresh ginger
  • ¼ tsp grated fresh turmeric or turmeric powder.

Similar to the other recipes, although with added Echinacea (a herb used to assist in fighting infection) and cayenne pepper, which is said to assist in moving bacteria and toxins out of the body, sore throats, and clearing congestion among many other things.
