How to party & stay skinny

There are ways to party this festive season, but still stay skinny.

Balancing Christmas Parties with exercise will help you stay slim this season.

The festive season is upon us and so are unlimited opportunities to eat, drink and be merry – and skip a few workouts and gain a few kilos. You don’t have to miss out on the fun in fear of an expanding waistline. Bondi Beauty gives you 10 tips on how to party through until January 1st without getting too soft around the edges.

  1. Walk while you talk – it doesn’t matter if it’s along the beach, down the street, around the office or on the spot – walking while you talk on your mobile keeps your metabolism up.
  2. Get to the beach – there’s nothing like a little public bikini exposure to remind you to say no to a triple helping of dessert or three visits to the buffet table.
  3. Morning and night squats – pop toothpaste on your toothbrush, slide down a wall and hold a squat position until you finish brushing your teeth.
  4. New Year jacks – perform 10 jumping jacks every time someone wishes you a Happy New Year. Tell them why and they might join you.
  5. Sit or stand away from party eats and nibbles – if you have to ask someone to pass you the food, or walk away from the person you are chatting with to reach the munchies table, it will put the brakes on your calorie consumption.
  6. Food OR alcohol gluttony – avoid overindulging in both in one night. If it’s an event with superb food, let your taste buds enjoy and limit your alcohol. If alcohol is the highlight, party on and eat lighter and healthier.
  7. Kissing burns 6.4 calories per minute – so pucker up at midnight if there’s a chance of expending a few extra calories with a passing hottie.
  8. Pack your rescue pumps – instead of waiting for buses and cabs, switch heels for handy fold up pumps that store neatly in your handbag and walk to the next venue or home.
  9. Dance your heart out – family get-together, catch-up with friends and New Year’s Eve celebration is a chance to dance, or at least sway to the music. The more you move, the trimmer you stay. So kick up your heels at every opportunity.
  10. Protein fix the morning after – your body craves carbs, stodge and grease the morning after a big night. Clean up your act with a protein based meal washed down with water, to prevent a slippery slope effect.
