6 Easy Ways to Achieve a Flat Stomach

We all dream of having a nicely toned, flat stomach. But it’s important to remember flat-tummies aren’t the be all and end all.

Always remember to focus on being the happiest, healthiest version of you and you’ll feeling amazing from the inside out.

Here are six easy ways to achieve a flat stomach:

UP THE H20:
When you’re not drinking enough water, your body actually retains fluids to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. Get yourself a 1l or 2l bottle of water, keep it with you at all times and sip consistently throughout the day to avoid a bloated belly caused by lack of fluids.

STEER CLEAR:
Chewing gum and carbonated beverages (think soft drink, sparkling water, champagne) can all lead to a bloated tummy due to a buildup of air and gas getting caught in your stomach. Artificial sweeteners, such as xylitol, aspartame and mannitol, can cause an upset tummy as they aren’t easily absorbed in your small intestine. Either ditch the sweetness altogether or opt for a more natural alternative like honey.

DON’T RESIST THE RESISTANCE:
If you want your leanest, fittest body then you need to be incorporating resistance training into your workout schedule. This isn’t a ‘should’ it is a ‘must’. Resistance training tones and shapes lean muscle, increasing the speed of our metabolism and causing us to burn more calories all day long. More muscle and less fat increases our chances of getting that washboard stomach.

MUNCH MINDFULLY:
It can be tempting to eat on the go but it’s really important to sit down and slow down when eating. When you eat too quickly, you don’t chew your food effectively which makes it harder to digest. Eating quickly means you’re also more likely to swallow air with your food which causes that big bloated belly and stomach discomfort.

EAT & DRINK THESE:

  • Asparagus: Asparagus is a great source of folate, vitamins A, C and K and a compound known as asparagine which makes it a natural diuretic. Add some asparagus spears to your lunch or dinner to flush out excess fluid and salt from your body, which will help to reduce bloating.
  • Dandelion Tea: Dandelion tea Is another natural dieuretic that also helps to stimulate digestion. But honestly these are just two of the amazing health benefits of dandelion tea- seriously, look it up!
  • Non-cruciferous veggies:Veggies like cucumber, spinach, zucchini, silverbeet and celery are easily digested, full of water and most importantly- good for you. Load your main meals up with these veggies for a happy and healthy tummy.
  • Fermented Foods: Our gut-health plays a huge role in our overall health and wellbeing which is why it’s important to ensure you have healthy gut bacteria. Fermented food and drinks like kimchi, sauerkraut and kombucha all promote a healthy gut by improving digestion and fighting harmful bacteria.
