Poke Bowls: Is this the new smoothie bowl?

Poke Bowls are taking over Sydney as the new smoothie bowl.

Poke Bowls are slowly becoming the new trend for many Sydney cafes.

Smoothie bowls have been one of the biggest trends in Bondi for some time, but they have been replaced by a new trend from Hawaii, Poke bowls (pronounced POKE-KEH).

Celebs including Isla Fischer have been spotted at Fishbowl Poke in Bondi and at the recent Oscars, there was a ready-to-order poke bar on site.

What is it?

Poke is a traditional Hawaiian dish that has been around for decades but has more recently become a health trend in Los Angeles and has made its way to Sydney.

It is cubed raw fish, often tuna or salmon which is seasoned and served over rice.

However, health-oriented places like the Poke Shack in Venice, California and our own Fishbowl Poke in Bondi, you can choose from a range of toppings and bases to customise your own deconstructed sushi bowl including a cabbage or veggie based option to substitute rice for the carb-conscious.

The great thing about Poke is it extremely versatile and you can be as adventurous as you want with Fishbowl’s BYOB (Build Your Own Bowl) feature including many different toppings and dressings.

Why is it so good?

Apart from being ridiculously tasty, Poke delivers some killer nutritional benefits. Fish is a healthy protein source and is low in saturated fat and high in Omega-3’s, perfect for hair, skin and nails as well as keeping a healthy heart.

Not only that but with options such as veggies or a brown rice base, you can customize your bowl to pack a fiber-punch to help lower cholesterol and assist in weight loss. You could say Poke makes you beautiful from the inside out!

Ok I’m sold, where do I get my poke fix?

Fishbowl Poke have just opened their second store in Surry Hills after the raging success of their beach-front Bondi spot on Campbell Parade. If you aren’t local and can’t justify the hike to one of their stores, only last week Fishbowl went live on Ubereats.
