Lipstick Made from Food? Yes!

Just when you thought beauty products couldn’t get more natural, now there’s a lipstick made from food.

Loved by Kourtney Kardashian, these new lipsticks by LUK Beautifood smell and taste so good, you could eat them.

Made with a delicious mixture of ingredients ranging from avocado, cacao butter, ginger, other mixed spices like cinnamon, and a variety of fruits and florals, these new lipsticks feed, nourish, hydrate and protect without the use of harsh chemical ingredients.

We spoke to food scientist and founder of LUK Beautifoods, Cindy Luken, on her inspiration behind these delicious new lipsticks.

With over 30 years of experience as a food scientist, Sydney’s Cindy Luken, 50, lives a clean, balanced and healthy lifestyle, with her husband of 24 years and their two children, aged eight and ten. She opts for little to no makeup and keeps her skincare routine to a minimum, opting for warm water washes and the use of natural oils to keep her skin fresh and clean.

She says: “Having just turned 50, I’ve been thinking about the number vs the age I actually look and feel. I feed my skin and body healthy food, maintain a balanced lifestyle, and have kept my skincare routine simple and chemical-free since the mid-90s. What comes with the number is wisdom and experience, which I greatly appreciate.”

Cindy tells us how a food scientist of 30 years ends up creating her very own lipsticks, and the inspiration behind this amazing new beauty product.

  1. How does a food scientist end up making beauty products?

“I’m a lifelong advocate of healthy eating and living well, so food has been my world from cooking as a child and studying food science and nutrition, to cooking for one of Australia’s pioneering caterers and building a biscuit empire. It seems a leap, but for me, it comes down to the simple fact: If we eat clean food, then why on earth aren’t we putting it on our skin? As what goes on, goes in.”

  1. What was the inspiration for wanting to develop your own lipsticks with food?

“Over 10 years ago, I inadvertently saw how lipsticks were being made. And as a food scientist, I was intrigued and decided to delve deeper. On researching, I quickly understood lipsticks are made of oils, waxes, butters, binders, colours and flavours, a recipe that looked a lot like a chemical cocktail. Instead of the skin healthy recipe it could be. So, I was inspired to create an innovative makeup product that could be considered a high-quality skin food, without the added nasties of synthetics and hazardous chemicals. To protect both the outer health and the inner health.”

  1. What is the future for LUK Beautifoods?

“For now, I’m focused on delivering 100% natural lip products. However, I do have a future view to expand into colour and other skin and body-related products, which can be applied and consumed.”
